This project is a modern take on the classic wind up music box. Using a 32-bit microcontroller and a rotary encoder this project creates a digital music box that works and sounds like an old fashion music box.
The music box uses wavetable synthesis and midi files to play back up to about 4 minutes worth of classic sounding music box audio. Using custom software Midi files can be previewed and adjusted before uploading directly to the music box over a serial connection.
The music box also features an auxiliary input header that can be used to trigger playback based on a switch or other method for jewelry boxes or other applications.
